A day in the life of an Archivist Supervisor at The Maltings Document Storage Solutions Limited
The role of an Archivist Supervisor is critical for The Maltings Document Storage Solutions Limited, to ensure the business runs smoothly and to a timely operation. Being organised, motivated and attention to detail are three core traits that our archiving team require to complete their role to the highest standards.
Andy Lawrence, our Archivist Supervisor, has mastered all three skills and that’s what makes him a great motivator and team leader.
How long have you been in your role as an Archivist Supervisor?
I have been in the role of Archivist Supervisor for 4 months, so I am still relatively new to the role. However, prior to my promotion, I have gained an extensive knowledge as a Driver / Archivist and a full understanding of the day to day operation of the business.
What does your role entail on a daily basis?
My main duty is supervising and supporting my team of archivists. I ensure that all deliveries and collections run smoothly and on time, housekeeping requirements are met each day and our clients are being looked after to the highest standards.
What kind of challenges do you face day to day?
I wouldn’t say ‘challenges’ as such because we have some great processes in place to ensure challenges don’t arise. From a personal point of view and with the supervisor role being new to me, I have developed great time management skills to ensure my time is spent either supporting the team, carrying out service visits or ensuring all housekeeping tasks are fully up to date.
What do you like most about working for The Maltings?
I absolutely love the people I work with. Everyone who works for both The Maltings Document Storage Solutions and Space2B at The Maltings are hard-working and light-hearted individuals. It’s so refreshing to love the people you’re working with. If someone needs help or advice – the team are always there to help out.
What drew you to The Maltings Document Storage Solutions originally?
Two things, The Maltings Document Storage Solutions is a growing business and to be connected and involved within an established organisation in Wales is really exciting. Secondly, I love the challenge that I’ve been tasked with which is to ensure our customers receive an exceptional service each and every time.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
People definitely wouldn’t know it but I am a black belt in Kung Fu! I also love to run and cycle – in the last 18 months, I’ve lost ten stone and recently signed up for the London Marathon!
What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
Honesty, integrity and ethics. Do not be afraid to try and fail, as long you learn by those mistakes and put it right for future reference – then people will notice the effort that you have put in.
