A day in the life of our Office Manager

06th Nov 2017 by The Maltings

Simon Morgan, Office Manager has kindly taken some time out of his very busy day to sit with us and talk all about his role at The Maltings Document Storage Solutions and a bit more about Simon!

We know how important the role of being in the office is at The Maltings because without this team, the clients wouldn’t be serviced to the highest standard that we pride ourselves on. Simon Morgan, Office Manager has kindly taken some time out of his very busy day to sit with us and talk all about his role and to find a little bit more about Simon!

Most of our clients speak with Simon on an almost daily basis, but never get to put a face to the name, so we thought there is no time like the present! Here we go…

Hi Simon, Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to chat to me! First things first, how long have you been in your role for now?

I started at The Maltings in September 1999 so I have just completed my 18th year of service. That’s what is great about working for the Maltings – most of us are long standing employees. When I started I was employed within a similar role.  After quite a few years, I was lucky enough to be promoted to the role of Office Manager and work with a great team.

Time flies when you’re having fun. What’s the first thing you do when you get into the office?

My typical day would begin with me assessing the day’s work load, starting with the planned deliveries and the routes we will be taking across Wales and the South West ensuring all the drivers are up to date with the days plans. Logistically we need to ensure our runs are optimised to guarantee we meet every planned delivery/collection in a timely manner.

What do you enjoy most about your day?

I love Interacting with our customers – we have a good relationship with all of our clients and there are some phone calls that leave you smiling for some time after the phone has been put down. We get to know our clients on a first name basis, from knowing what they are up to on the weekend to the names of their children and grandchildren – it’s great to have those relationships with clients!

What advice would you give to recent new employees at The Maltings Document Storage?

The Maltings prides itself on accuracy, so quite simply it would have to be ‘Check, check, check’. Given the number of files and boxes we handle on a daily basis it is extremely important our team understand that being thorough and paying attention is one of our key principles.

Thanks for giving us an insight in to your working day, Simon. All this work talk  - now we want to know an interesting fact about you! Tell us something that might surprise us.

I might not appear to be a fitness fanatic, but it does come as a surprise to most people to hear that I have ran two half marathons to raise money for a charity that means a lot to me.

They were one of the most challenging things I have ever done, but the sense of accomplishment afterwards was incredible, and you get a buzz for running!

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

It has to be the modern mobile phone. When I was young, we had never heard of a mobile phone, let alone thought it would become something that was essential in my daily life. It’s amazing what you don’t need to carry around with you anymore, because it’s all on your phone. They were once only for business people, but now even my children have one and won’t know what a house phone is. It’s incredible.  Alexander Graham Bell would be amazed if he could see how far the science of the telephone has progressed in less than 150 years.
