Care & Repair, Cardiff & The Vale receive £250 from The Maltings MoneyBox Campaign

Care and Repair, Cardiff & Vale are the latest charity to secure funding from our Community Money Box campaign, helping them to continue providing a holistic service, when visiting older people in their homes to deal with housing issues.

Care & Repair offer support for a range of issues including home safety, falls prevention, energy efficiency, welfare benefits, grants and health and wellbeing. With the ‘Beast from the East’ hitting South Wales early March, our funding for the MoneyBox Campaign came just in time and they were able to provide older people with much needed heating for the most snowfall in March ever recorded.

Julia Folland, Operational Manager at Care & Repair, Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan explained “We visit older people at home and listen to what they want and need and will then put together a package with support to make it happen.

A perfect case study of how our funding is spent in the community was Brian. Brian came to us for assistance as his boiler had broken down. He was referred to us through his GP. He suffers with COPD, emphysema and had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia.

We gave Brian one of our emergency electric heaters to keep him warm temporarily until we could fix his heating.

We then obtained a full grant to replace Brian’s boiler which was in an outhouse and bring it inside the main house and made room for it by removing the water tank. We also replaced a ground floor radiator that was not working efficiently and we fitted an additional radiator in the living room as well.

We helped Brian apply for Attendance Allowance which he was awarded at the higher rate increasing his income by £82.30 a week.

We also raised £1584 from charitable funds to provide support to replace 4 windows in the property that were coming to the end of their useful life and diminishing the effect the new boiler is having in heating the house.”

“With the weather that was predicted, for us, Care and Repair was a worthy cause. Knowing that we’ve supported in providing an older person with heating over the extreme weathers is extremely rewarding for us” said Andrew Partridge, Operations Manager at The Maltings Document Storage Solutions.

We launched our Moneybox Community Campaign with the aim to help the local community in South Wales. New groups have until 30th April to apply for our next round of funding, worth up to £250!

We’re inviting local groups to explain how we can help them. So, whether you’re a cricket club that needs new bats, or a brass band that needs new trombones – The Maltings want to hear from you!

The Maltings’ Community Money Box Campaign is open to any group across South Wales who believe they can benefit from a little extra funding. For your chance to be a part of it, send your club/organisation/group name plus the reason why you should be chosen and how much funding you’re after (up to the value of £250) to enquiries@themaltings.co.uk or The Maltings’ Community Money Box Campaign, The Maltings, East Tyndall Street, Cardiff Bay, CF24 5EA.
